Why the world is longing for Paris Fashion Week

The coming days it’s time again for the entire fashion circus to move to Paris, as Paris Fashion Week is around the corner. Kicked off yesterday until October 1st, the leading French fashion houses will showcase their Spring/Summer 15 collections to the press and buyers. After New York, London and Milan, why are we still so eager to see what the fashion shows in Paris have in store for us? Why the fashion world is longing for Paris Fashion Week….

Chanel : Runway - Paris Fashion Week - Haute Couture S/S 2014

Paris Fashion = Art
Historically, the most influential designers come from Paris and as such they are still loyal to have their runway shows in Paris. Think Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier and you can be sure of grandeur and spectacle. Some of the shows are so magical, such as Marc Jacobs’ grande finale at Louis Vuitton in SS14 (watch here), where his 10-year career at Louis Vuitton was combined into 1 fantastic decor. Or how Mr. Karl Lagerfeld time and time again turns the Grand Palais into a magical fantasy world, such as a full blown Chanel supermarket in FW14 (here). This is not anymore about just the clothes, this is art in the making.

Beautiful locations
Of course in a city as beautiful as Paris, the locations of the shows can’t be anything less than jaw dropping. As mentioned, Chanel always showcases in the stunning Grand Palais, as well as Saint Laurent does. The romantic Jardin des Tuileries is home to Nina Ricci, Issey Miyake and Valentino. And Raf Simons’ show for Christian Dior show is moving for the first time to the gardens of the Musée du Louvre to give an extra boost to the artistic direction of the collection.

Jean Paul Gaultier
This week will be a special fashion week as Jean Paul Gaultier announced that this will be his last prêt-a-porter collection and he will focus again on couture and his perfume lines. So this is our last chance to see the show of the 62-year old designer after over 38 years of men’ and women’s ready-to-wear collections, quite a special moment in fashion history.

And of course the entire media circus will be there, both on the streets as well as at the shows. So not a moment needs to be missed if you keep a close eye on the social media channels. We will also bring you some of the highlights of what we think are the most PiPaParis worthy moments of Paris Fashion Week!
