If you don’t want to go to sleep after dinner or don’t feel to start clubbing yet but do feel like going for a drink, go grab a cocktail at Le Ballroom du Beef Club: a hidden cocktail bar with a speakeasy vibe, which opened its doors in 2012. The venue was created by the same owners as the revolutionary bars Experimental Cocktail Club and Prescription. Hidden behind an unmarked black door, it’s easily missed. However as the underground part of restaurant The Beef Club, you can’t miss it if you have dinner there beforehand, like we did.
After descending a spiral staircase to the basement, we entered the dimly-lit bar with red velvet couches to complete the vintage style. We decided to take a seat at the bar where we were welcomed by a friendly American cocktailshaker called Peter. The cocktail menu is limited to only eight cocktails, next to the softs, beers and champagnes. Every cocktail is all but standard such as the Concombre Fumant featuring Tequila, Mescal, egg white and cucumber juice. We asked Peter for his off-menu specialty and he prepared for us the fresh and delicious Saint Germain. Of course he didn’t want to reveal his secret recipe, but I could clearly taste the Hendrick’s gin together with a hint of tabasco to create a spicy twist. The music started off with some typical loungy bar music, but slowly but surely the volume was turned up together with the beats per minute. So, some cocktails later at 2AM we were fully in the clubbing vibe and ready to head on.
